A Co. Wicklow athlete is off to Australia next month (AUGUST) as a member of the Irish team in the World Transplant Games – and, in their own eyes, all 19 team members are winners already by just getting to the starting-line. 
A 42 year-old Co. Wicklow carpenter with a transplanted liver is the toast of Bangkok today after he got the Irish team off to a stunning start at the 16th World Transplant Games. Tony Gartland

World Transplant Games in Ontario 2005 – Gold 800m track, silver 1,500m track and bronze in the 5,000m road race
Also competed in World Transplant Games in Manchester in 1995, Sydney 1997, Japan in 2001 and France in 2003.
Competed in European Transplant Games in Hungary in 2006
Games Events: 5k road race, ten pin bowling, 5,000m, 8,000m and 1,500m track
