He got up before six last Tuesday morning, plugged the tubes into his stomach for 30 minutes of dialysis, whipped them out again, grabbed his sports bag and rushed out the door – and off to the swimming pool where he coolly won four European medals.

Tonight he is one of the heroes of the Irish team in Wurzburg, with every member of the squad realising just how difficult it can be to compete in sport while on dialysis.
A group of seven athletes, plus the will make up a big Dublin contingent representing Ireland at next week's European Transplant & Dialysis Games, in Wurzburg, Germany – and their main mission is to spread the gospel of organ donation.
