A brave Kildare butcher will next week celebrate the 20th anniversary of the kidney transplant he received from his sister – but the celebrations will be cut short as he prepares to take part in his sixth World Transplant Games next month.

My sporting highlight

Sports: Accomplished jockey. Rode a winner in the Irish National Hunt Racing Festival in Punchestown in 2002 and has ridden at Ascot and Newmarket. Rode in 9 National 3 Day Event Championships.  9th in International 3 D/E in Switzerland in 1989.  Member of the team that won 3D/E National Championships in 1993.

Has trekked part of Everest, Rockies and the Andes.

Hungary 2002 – Won 800m and 5000m. Bronze in Badminton.

France 2003 – Silver in Golf and 400m. 4th in 4 x 400m

Slovenia 2004 – Silver in 400m and 4 x I00m. 4th in 200m

Canada 2005 – 4th in 400m

Hungary 2006 – Silver in 400m, Bronze in 200m and 6th in relay
Games Events:
Golf, 100m, 200m,400m and 800m Track and 4x100m Track
