Deirdre was one of the stars of the World Games in Gold Coast, where she won gold in Squash, Badminton (doubles and singles) and Golf.
Dalkey Community Council have presented Deirdre with the Paddy McCabe Memorial Trophy for sporting achievement by a Dalkey person.
The 2009 award was bestowed on Deirdre at a function in Dalkey. The pictures in our Photo Gallery (go to Photo Gallery, bottom left, enter Dalkey in the Search the Gallery section) show Deirdre receiving the Paddy McCabe award from David McCabe, son of the late Paddy McCabe, and also Deirdre and her family members.

“I am very honoured to receive this award,” said Deirdre. “It is wonderful that the judges have recognised transplant athletics in this way, and it is certainly a boost to all of us on the team whose main aim in participating is to promote organ donor awareness.”
The 19-strong team, ranging in age from 22 to 64, travelled Down Under with 13 new kidneys, five new livers and one new kidney-pancreas.
