Minister for Health Mary Harney has congratulated the Irish team on their 22-medal haul at the 17th World Transplant Games in Gold Coast, Australia. Ms Harney also tendered her apologies at not being able to attend yesterday’s Homecoming Reception in Dublin Airport.
![]() The Irish team at yesterday's Dublin Airport Homecoming Reception “I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate all of the competitors and their back up team who participated in the 17th World Transplant Games,” said the Minister. “It has been a remarkable achievement to return home with a total of 22 medals. The whole country, together with your family and friends, looked on with great pride and admiration. “You have managed to highlight in the best possible way the achievements that are possible for those who have been through the difficulties of transplant. This has been made possible by the generosity of others. You are an inspiration to those people in the community who chose to be donors. “We must continue to encourage everyone to carry an organ donation card, and discuss this decision of organ donation with their loved ones. I look forward to the celebrations next year when the 2010 European Transplant and Dialysis Games will be held in Ireland. Well done again and congratulations to all.” Also, see photo gallery for more pictures from yesterday's homecoming. For an organ donor card FREETEXT the word ‘DONOR’ to 50050. |
