Irish athlete Angela Sherlock, from Walkinstown, has had great success at the 18th World Transplant Games in Sweden.
The Irish squad member who has had two kidney transplants is doing herself and her country proud by picking up three medals so far. Angela received a Bronze medal for her outstanding performance in bowling on Sunday last and today at the athletics track she scooped up two more. Within fantastic performances in both the Shot-put, Discus throw and the teams relay race, Angela proudly stood on the podium to receive another three Bronze medals. The Irish representative commented; “I am delighted, it’s just fantastic. The games are great and to get a medal is even better. But that’s not what the games about for me. For me, it’s getting out there and taking part in my sports and meeting new people. That’s what’s important.” Angela further spoke on how she prepared for the Games and how thankful she is to her donor family. “I train five times a week, do classes and lift weights. I know it might seem like a lot of training, but I love sports, so for me, it’s not an issue. I would just like to thank my donor family. Taking part and even winning is all down to them. The World Transplant Games are a great way to show donor families how thankful we are and what we can achieve with the gift of life. |
