John Loftus is winner of Sports Personality of the Month

Former Irish rugby international Peter Clohessy has announced the first winner of his Sport Personality of the Month Award. Having been involved in sport both as an amateur and a professional Peter, who runs a successful bar in Limerick, wants to recognise and award those people involved in sport in Limerick and the Mid South West Region.

There are so many people playing, supporting and involved in various sports right from the grassroots to the top tier of professional ranks in this region that Peter feels it is so important to acknowledge the immense effort and dedication involved.

A panel of 8 sports journalists from local newspapers and radio will nominate their choice of who they believe deserve to win the monthly award drawing from their knowledge and expertise. The winner will be chosen by Peter himself from the 8 nominees.

August saw many achievements locally in Limerick, Tipperary and Clare but the nomination which stood out to Peter was that of John Loftus.

John Loftus is a well-known business man from Limerick, the 62 year old had a kidney transplant almost 10 years ago. In August he travelled to Australia to compete in the Transplant games as part of team of 19 people representing Ireland and won gold in the 100m final for men aged 60 and over. For this incredible achievement we are very proud to announce John as Peter Clohessy’s August Sports Personality of the Month. He will be presented with a trophy on Wednesday the 23rd of September at 7.30pm at Peter Clohessy’s Bar, Limerick, where friends, family, local journalists and fans will help John celebrate his amazing success.
