An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has offered his congratulations to the record-breaking team of 23 Irish athletes, all of whom have had transplants, who return from the World Transplant Games in Bangkok today.

An TaoiseachThe Irish athletes are bringing back an impressive haul of 39 medals, the most ever won by an Irish team at a World Games.The congratulatory message from An Taoiseach can be read below.

 
To all the members of the Irish Team just back from competing at the 16th World Transplant Games in Thailand.

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Irish Government to congratulate all of you on your wonderful performance in Bangkok.

Your extremely impressive haul of 39 medals is testament to the great work you put in for these games and the fulsome support you received from your families, friends, supporters, mentors and the Irish Kidney Association, the organisation responsible for co-ordinating Ireland's involvement in the games.

Sincere congratulations and thanks on a wonderful performance for Ireland.
