Image Deirdre Faul is new to biking – but it doesn’t show. Today (THURSDAY) she revealed herself to be a strong cyclist when she took two silver medals at the 5th European Transplant & Dialysis Games here in Wurzburg, Germany.

Her events were a 5km time trial and a 16k road race. “I’m very happy with how I cycled,” she said.

“I have done some biking this year but it is a relatively new sport for me. I found the road race very good – the time trial was tougher, probably because it was more intense.

“It was very enjoyable and I look forward to doing more racing in the future.”

She was the only Irish woman cycling, and the only Irish athlete in action today. Volleyball was the other sport on the calendar today.

Tomorrow, things will really start to heat up with the bowling and track & field events take place.
