Image Day one of competition was yesterday (Monday) and we are under way. John Loftus and Eamon Malone represented us in table tennis.  They were in a busy category but were ready to play all-comers.

Both John and Eamon acquitted themselves well in the opening rounds though they did not make it to medal matches. Apparently, a pact has been agreed between them to go into secret training camps in Limerick and Cavan in preparation for table tennis in next year’s World Transplant Games in Australia.

Given that table tennis was the only event on today so it was a low key start for Team Ireland.  Not ones to sit around, the team headed off in various directions for the day.  In the course of one tram journey I saw members of our team on another tram, others walking around the shops and others waiting at a tram stop.  The torrential downpours that came and went throughout the day did not deter anyone.  There are great opportunities to see the host city during a Games so it’s not all sport!

Today (Tuesday) we have Peter Heffernan in swimming; Hugo Boyce, Michael Dwyer, Deirdre Faul, James Nolan and Marie O’Connor in golf and; Catherine Murphy, Daniel McCarthy, Charlie Ryan, Bridie Nicholson, Paul Donohoe and James Hannon in darts.

The competitors are ready, the supporters are ready, let competition begin!
