ImageAngela Sherlock from Walkinstown will travel to Bangkok to compete in the World Transplant Games for the second time – and her friends will join her.

“I have four people accompanying me when I travel so I will have great support,” said Angela.

The 16th World Transplant Games run from Saturday, August 25th until Sunday, September 2nd and a chance
for those who have received transplants to celebrate their new lease of life.
Dubliner Angela has had two kidney transplants.

“I received the first transplant when I was 17 but it rejected five years later. Then, after eight years on dialysis I got my second transplant in 2003 and I was absolutely thrilled,” she said.

“I was on dialysis for a long time and it was quite tough but now I am enjoying great health and I haven’t been in hospital since.”

The Dublin lady is no stranger to competition having travelled to Canada two years ago to compete in the last World Games.

“The competition is tough at the World Games so I have put in more training this time round,” said Angela who will compete in badminton, ten pin bowling, shot putt, ball throw and relay.

Angela will be hoping to add to the seven medals she won at the European Transplant Games in Slovenia 2004 and Hungary 2006.
